Once again, the Montreal community turned out on August 5 for the annual Ken Reed Golf Tournament, sponsored by The Tenaquip Foundation. A total of $281,301 was raised for the Old Brewery Mission.
The players took to the greens of the prestigious Beaconsfield Golf Club to support the cause. With a restricted field of only 120 players, this exciting golf tournament sold out quickly. The proceeds will be used to fund the Old Brewery Mission's programs to help people experiencing homelessness get off the streets in a sustainable way. The organization works on several fronts to break the cycle of homelessness: prevention programs, emergency services and adapted rehousing solutions.
“We are grateful to see our community mobilize year after year for the cause of homelessness,” said James Hughes, President and CEO of the Old Brewery Mission. “The needs are great, and Montrealers recognize the importance of getting involved to break the cycle of homelessness in the city. Thank you for answering our call!”
For nearly 20 years, The Tenaquip Foundation has been an unwavering supporter of the Old Brewery Mission as the sponsor of this fundraising event. In 2006, the tournament was renamed the Ken Reed Golf Tournament in recognition of the long-standing commitment of the founder of Tenaquip Limited. The partnership between the Old Brewery Mission and The Tenaquip Foundation continues with Tenaquip Place, an 18-unit project for people experiencing homelessness that will open in 2025.
“On behalf of everyone at The Tenaquip Foundation, I would like to say that we are very proud of our partnership with the Old Brewery Mission,” declared Michael Fitzgerald, Executive Director of The Tenaquip Foundation. “It really is such a great organization. Working with them, with James Hughes and his team, is such a pleasure. We have already accomplished so much, and as the relationship grows, together, we will accomplish much more.”
The success of this event would not have been possible without our generous partners. The Old Brewery Mission thanks Anbec Construction, Comax Construction, Fuze Logistics, Lapointe Rosenstein Marchand Melançon, Le Square Phillips, and Pipe and Piling Supplies Ltd. The Old Brewery Mission is also grateful to the members of the golf tournament organizing committee, Paula Shannon, Diane Drury, John Castellarin, Will Hudson, James S. Ross and Jim Wilson, and the partners present on the day of the event. “It was a pleasure to chair the Ken Reed Golf Tournament organizing committee again this year,” said Paula Shannon. “I have been involved with the Old Brewery Mission for 10 years now, and I am proud to make a difference in my community by pitching in to help tackle homelessness.”
